The Justice Committee is composed of students, teachers, and administrators. It is a vehicle to resolve conflicts between students and teacher/administrators. Students
have the right to submit documents and speak to the justice committee when they feel that disciplinary action has not been appropriate. The Justice Committee, in matters within their jurisdiction, has the authority to make final judgments in teacher and administrative decisions.
Objectives
- Support
or refute the decision of the administration towards a consequence
given to a student.
- Listen
to student's concerns of unjust treatment and act accordingly.
- Decide
if the accused is at fault or not.
- Make
proposals for changes in the manuals according to cases heard.
Process
When a mutual agreement is not achieved, or the student feels punishment is
unfair, he/she can:

with the person imparting the punishment
- Second
- Speak with the Dean/Principal.
- Third
- Appeal to Justice Committee.
Then, a document is passed stating: if
the amused is at fault or not, if the punishment fits the offense, and
suggestions on reasonable punishments.

What is the Justice Committee?
The Justice Committee is a small body of students and teachers/cc that will hear
grievances brought to it by students. It will determine if any disciplinary action
should be given to a student. The Justice Committee
also gives students a voice in administrative decisions of a disciplinary nature.
Because it is made up of a cross community members, the point of view of the student may be better understood.
Who
should be in the Justice Committee ?
The committee will consist of 2 representatives per grade.
Representatives will be elected every two years (beginning of school year fellow students.
Two teachers (one counselor may be elected instead) may also be part of the committee and these will be elected in the same
way as student representatives. In total the committee consists of 10 members.
During elections students will vote for their grade Justice representation and teachers (any student or
teacher/counselor may run a positions.
Quorum in a Justice Committee session should be 60% of the members of the committee.
How will the Committee work ?
In order to appeal to the Committee, every student must pass series of steps
(see Objectives page). No steps in the process may be
eliminated. All students have the right, if he/she decides to take it, to pass through all steps
in the process. |
