Optimal Match - Colegio
Bolivar
Program Development Model
The curriculum of the Colegio Bolivar
Optimal Match Program is based upon the School wide
Enrichment Model developed by Dr. Joseph Renzulli and Dr. Sally Reis of the University of
Connecticut. This model offers exposure to a variety of new experiences as well as
training in the cognitive and affective processes for all children. In addition, the
program provides a methodology for meeting the needs of children demonstrating gifted
behavior as they display heightened interest in a topic, area of study, or an unusually
creative idea they wish to pursue on an advanced level of investigation with a commitment to
the development of an authentic product.
Philosophy
All students need to be provided with the educational opportunity to nurture their
individual needs, interests, and abilities. The Optimal Match Program was developed to help insure
that our students are motivated, interested and encouraged to work at a level which will
challenge and stimulate them. We are interested in developing critical and creative
thinking skills and in teaching our students the methodology of independent study and
self-directed learning so they will become more productive adults. We are also committed
to the pursuit of excellence. We strive to provide students with the experiences in which
they can excel by learning the value of work and commitment. Our desired outcome is to
help students be well-prepared for continuing with advanced education and for
participation in society as creative, productive and responsible leaders and citizens.
The Three Ring Definition of Gifted Behavior
The School wide Enrichment Model is built upon the belief that many
students have the potential for gifted behavior. This behavior reflects an interaction
among three basic clusters of human traits. These clusters are above average ability, task
commitment and creativity. It is believed that gifted behaviors take in place certain
people (not all people), at certain time (not all the time), and under certain
circumstances (not all circumstances). |
