Music

Up

During the last couple of years the music program has gained a lot of acceptance among the Colegio Bolivar students, many of whom consider it now more than just a class, a passion. Moraima Cárpena, current head of the music department, is responsible for this dramatic change. With her arrival to school, the conservative and rigid alternative that for years the department had established, changed completely into a free and more contemporary attitude. Today, the department counts with three excellent teachers, Juliana Agudelo and Malú (primary and preprimary), and Moraima Cárpena (Middle and High School). The high school students now have the option to focus their musical talent either towards the instrumental side or the vocal side. As part of the music program, the students frequently offer presentations to their classmates, either as part of the chorus or performing various cover songs with the rock bands.

  • The Choir

Colegio Bolivar's choir is composed mainly by the vocal music students although it is opened to all middle and high school (obviously, with a gifted voice). The choir of our school has gone all over the country to sing and show their excellent stage performance. Within the last years it has become one of the most admired groups inside and outside. There is a great probability that the choir will be going either to Barranquilla or to Medellín during the current year (2002) to engage in a choir competition with several other Colombian schools. According to planned, it will take place between April and May.

  • Rock Bands

The instrumental students often join to create bands of their favorite music, being Rock the most chosen one. But within that Rock general genre we have bands of all sort of styles, counting punk, alternative, and metal. "Knuhdz" is one of the most known bands, although it has already disappeared and it was made 100% of Colegio Bolivar's talent.

  • Outside Class Activities

The projects and activities that are being held outside the normal class schedule are diverse. The school offers the possibility of taking extracurricular private instrumental classes with excellent teachers inside the campus, providing all the equipment necessary. Also, every student that is taking music classes has the option of participating in most of these activities. The projects that are being organized in this area include a musical that will unite all Colegio Bolivar's students talent in the different aspects of arts. Musicals feature students acting, playing live music, singing and performing and also very important, the art students in charge of the scenery.
