Hi,
I think it would be a good exercise to do a different kind of peer review for the AP essays just handed in. Here’s what I would like you to do…
1. Open the AP essay from the person ABOVE YOU on the list. 2. Read the essay and my comments 3. Read the rubric and see what grade I gave the essay 4. In a separate document, write a ONE PAGE persuasive essay supporting ONE of the following statements a. Fulano’s essay received a grade of ____ but should get a grade of ____. b. Fulano’s essay received a grade of ____ and that grade is correct because… 5. Your guidelines are in the rubric – that’s what you use to decide whether the essay’s grade should go up or down or stay right where it is. You must use support from the essay…for example…” The rubric states that an AP essay receiving a grade of a 6 should “provide specific examples and meaningful evidence” in responding to the prompt. Fulano’s essay clearly shows this when she writes, “…” 6. If you write a convincing enough paper, I’ll raise the grade of your classmate (assuming you argue for a higher grade). If you argue for a lower or the same grade, I will not change the original grade. It’s OK to argue for the same or lower grade -people need to hear your honest opinion.
Understand???
This will be due on November 6, the day after we finish Invisible Man. Email it to me…
