Web Searching

Please use the proper format for your bibliographies and citations.  Check the BibHelpers in the Reference Room or the English Department Style Guide (pdf format) here.

We have some books on reserve in the library.  Please check US History sources, as well as the school encyclopedias for general information.  As well, you can look at our online resources, including SIRS Researcher, Britannica, and Worldbook.

Many of the sites below are portals, which means that they are basically sites with links to other sites.  In most cases, I have not extracted specific links for your topics.  If you don't find what you need on this page, you will need to do a little searching.  Yahoo is THE PLACE to start.  Check here and search within this category for your topic.  After you have looked at Yahoo, check Google or one of the other main search engines.

The North American Indian by Edward S. Curtis
One of the most significant and controversial representations of traditional American Indian culture ever produced. Issued in a limited edition from 1907-1930, the publication continues to exert a major influence on the image of Indians in popular culture. Curtis said he wanted to document "the old time Indian, his dress, his ceremonies, his life and manners."
