Please use the proper format for your bibliographies and citations.  Check the BibHelpers in the Reference Room or the English Department Style Guide (pdf format) here.

"Reason is man's only proper judge of values and his only proper guide to action. The proper standard of ethics is: man's survival qua man--i.e., that which is required by man's nature for his survival as a rational being (not his momentary physical survival as a mindless brute). Rationality is man's basic virtue, and his three fundamental values are: reason, purpose, self-esteem. Man--every man--is an end in himself, not a means to the ends of others; he must live for his own sake, neither sacrificing himself to others nor sacrificing others to himself; he must work for his rational self-interest, with the achievement of his own happiness as the highest moral purpose of his life." --Ayn Rand (1889).

We have books on your topics in the library, both in the stacks and in the reference room; do a keyword and subject search for your topic, and put it in quotation marks (e.g. "values", "responsibility"); you should also look for general books on philosophy.  As well, you should look at our online resources, including SIRS Researcher, Britannica and Worldbook.

Finally, if you do your own search, you should use Yahoo! first, as it lists topics much more completely and accurately than if you use an open search engine like Google.

I've included below some pages on values in general (from a philosophical viewpoint) as well as pages on your specific topics, as I understand them.  You may still need to refer back to the other two pages created for the course, the first here, and the second here.

As always, if you need any help, please see me.  The list below is just to get you started; it is not complete.
