March to June were the last months of the first year of the Agric Science course. The students were working hard on their monograph projects (which have been uploaded to the Monograph Page on this blog) to complete them, with some excellent pieces of high quality research.<\/p>\n

In the garden the students worked hard on preparing the second terrace bed, ready for next years students.<\/p>\n

Towards the end of the year the students got together and organized a bar-b-que for the maintenance staff to say thank you for all their assistance and to say goodbye to the agric class. Lamb Burgers were cooked by Juan David and eaten by all present. It was a really nice way to finish our first year.<\/p>\n

After the bar b que only the 11th<\/sup> graders, Carolina, Valentina, Nick Bleske and Nick Nasser were left to work in the garden. They did a sterling job at finishing the beds and starting Pumpkin hill, our attempt to grow pumpkins for Halloween celebrations at Colegio Bolivar. The school was kindly donated pumpkin seeds by Dr Casey Hurley of Western Carolina University. These were planted with the help of students from the 10th<\/sup> grade towards the end of the school year.<\/p>\n

High school graduation occurred with the Juan David Aristizabal and Juana Castro sharing the award for excellence in Agriculture \u2013 awards well deserved by both students.<\/p>\n

In the 11th<\/sup> grade, Carolina Rosas gained the award for excellence, Valentina Perea for effort and Nick Bleske for most improved student.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
