When we first arrived to the class and went down to the garden for the first time, the terraces were well constructed but needed maintenance after the summer recess. The majority of the rocks had already been removed by the previous class, but we found that \u00a0there were many small rocks still in the soil. <\/span><\/p>\n

Our first duty was to dig out the weeds and grasses that had grown over the summer, then \u00a0excavate and remove as many small rocks as we could. We dug all the soil out in two meter sections, and cleaned by removing stones by hand and using a metal wire mesh device. <\/span><\/p>\n

We then mixed the soil with compost, kindly donated by Felipe Olano\u00b4s parents, to increase the nutrients in the terrace beds. Once one section of the terrace had been prepared we moved to the next. We have managed to recuperate about half of the first terrace, about nine meters. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Once prepared we waited a week before planting any seeds in the terrace.<\/span><\/p>\n

Our goal is to finish recuperating the first terrace in its entirety this semester. <\/span><\/p>\n
