CB Forum
15th Forum on Teaching & Learning
Ewan McIntosh’s mission today is to ensure that every learner gets to experience great teaching and learning in rich learning environments. He and his team do that by helping teachers and school leaders to think and work differently, and by bringing them together so they can achieve something remarkable.
After teaching modern languages at high school, he worked as National Advisor on the Future of Learning for the Scottish Government and as Commissioner at Channel 4 Television. His firm, NoTosh, pioneered the ideas of design thinking for learning in the classroom over a decade ago. His team now works in 72 countries on curriculum design, leadership development and the creation of learning experiences that allow young people – and their teachers – think and do things differently.
Besides the keynote on Day 1, Ewan will lead a few sessions during the Forum including the reflections at the end of both days.
Dr. David C. Virtue will be the keynoter on Day 2. He is the Taft B. Botner Distinguished Professor of Middle Grades Education at WCU. David teaches courses in middle grades education, pursues research focused on middle grades teacher preparation and credentialing and serves on the board of WCU’s middle grades lab school.
David has been an active member of the Association for Middle Level Education (AMLE) throughout his career. He is editor of The International Handbook of Middle Level Education Theory, Research, and Policy (2020) and the AMLE Innovations in Middle Level Education Research book series (Routledge). In 2023, David created the Middle School Research to Practice Podcast, which he co-hosts with Andrew Maxey.
Colegio Bolivar and Western Carolina University have developed an important partnership over the years. WCU is supporting our event as some of its representatives will facilitate professional learning opportunities during the concurrent sessions on both days and the keynote on Day 2.
A few companies that provide educational services and products will contribute to the Forum by offering some workshops on research-based instructional strategies. We will have an exhibitors’ area too for attendees to gather information from them.
Last, but definitely not least, we are anticipating a big group of teachers and educational leaders who will present during the concurrent sessions (please see the corresponding tabs with more information about sending a proposal).
A detailed schedule for all sessions will be posted in the corresponding tab, prior to the Forum.
