Welcome to the Colegio Bolivar Martin Felton Library

We would like to welcome you, once again, to a new year at Colegio Bolivar and The Martin Felton Colegio Bolivar library! The library staff - Martha Fayad, Elizabeth Aguado, Adriana Lozano, and Maria Victoria Gomez, have worked hard to position the library as a valuable resource at Colegio Bolivar. As always, the competition for our own shelves of books, magazines, and our access to reliable and relevant resources through established databases of news sources is unequaled.

We encourage students, teachers, and the community, in general, to allay some of today’s digital noise and “fake news” by offering peer-reviewed materials, published works, well-regarded authors of both fiction and non-fiction, and legitimate sources of information to establish a common ground of facts and opinions so our students may have all the information they need to make competent and informed decisions, not only in school but beyond.

The world is in desperate need of our progeny to engage in thoughtful discussions and dialogs about the frightening global issues facing humanity at this crucial period in our own epoch, and these will only come about through accepting a common core of facts.

We are happy to be of service to the Colegio Bolivar community.

The primary library has been completely remodeled; come and see the changes!

They continue to focus their work on establishing solid reading skills through a variety of projects, author studies, creative activities, reading time, book talks, all while offering our children more than 15,000 titles to choose from. The children from El Nido have also been coming to the primary library regularly, getting their first dose of reading and fun, an important experience in developing life-long readers and learners.

Primary is focusing on listening skills, participation, and reading habits, as well, and students are learning to read thoughtfully and fully, experimenting with different genres, authors, fictional, and non-fiction works.

Our work with the middle school humanities teachers started last year has seen a five-fold increase in reading among our middle schoolers. They are in and out of the library with their teachers on a regular basis. It’s an outstanding thing to see.

We continue to add more books to the collection, mostly fiction but also, now in January, a large order of non-fiction. Using Amazon has exceeded our expectations, being able to order books regularly to meet both curricular and personal demands, as well as offering Kindle books to students and staff basically on demand. It’s a wonderful feeling as a librarian to put a book in someone’s hands as soon as they request it. Please let us know if there are any books you would like in the collection. The Colegio Bolivar Martin Felton Library is open to the entire community.

In addition to the above, the library was proud to host many expositions last year. You should be getting notices of these in your Bolivar al Dia newsletters. Please drop in for a moment to admire our students’ efforts and creativity. Ending the school year with our Art Department annual showing is always a great example of the talent and creativity of our students.

If you are a burgeoning author, artist, musician, etc., please feel free to contact us. The library is for the whole community to share and use, a common meeting ground to explore and take pleasure in our many talents and creativity.
