Then, using the <strong>I\u00b2 strategy (Identify and Interpret)<\/strong>, they recorded three observations (\u201cWhat I See\u201d or WIS) and three interpretations (\u201cWhat It Means\u201d or WIM) to better understand what was happening inside this small capsule of plant life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.colegiobolivar.edu.co\/website\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/IMG_2967-1-768x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-31084\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.colegiobolivar.edu.co\/website\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/IMG_2980-1-2-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-31091\" style=\"width:769px;height:auto\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>For the experiment, using a spinach leaf as the primary material, students built a small <strong>closed system<\/strong>: they placed the leaf inside a transparent bag with a <strong>carbon dioxide (CO\u2082) sensor<\/strong>, and positioned a <strong>grow light<\/strong> about 6\u20138 inches away to simulate sunlight. Every five seconds, the sensor recorded the concentration of CO\u2082, allowing the young scientists to observe real-time changes in gas levels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The results did not disappoint: <strong>CO\u2082 levels dropped<\/strong>, while <strong>oxygen and water vapor levels rose<\/strong>. What does this mean? CO\u2082 entered through the leaf, likely serving as a raw material for <strong>photosynthesis<\/strong>, while oxygen and water were released.
