Carmen and I will be doing this speech in both languages.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

As a history teacher, I spend a lot of time thinking about civilizations: what makes them great, why they fall, and most importantly, what they leave behind. Long after their monuments crumble and their achievements become textbook footnotes, their legacy remains. While preparing these remarks, I realized that the Class of 2026 has built its own civilization here at Colegio Bolivar. Like great civilizations, you’ve fought your own battles for survival\u2014through Binational competitions, Copa de Amistad rivalries, and countless challenges along the way. And every student mattered, from the one who always participated in class discussions to the one who brought chaotic energy wherever they went, each of you was an essential part of the legacy you created here. And like civilizations from the past, you also have left behind your ancient artifacts: misplaced laptop chargers, messages carved into desks, and at least one Personero campaign sticker. <\/span>Eduardo Bellini and Tom\u00e1s Olano<\/b>, you’re still planning to remove that from my wall, right?\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

Adem\u00e1s de un legado representado en recuerdos, proyectos, reputaci\u00f3n y huella; vivieron una historia compartida: a\u00f1os de experiencias, conflictos y logros. Crearon normas propias: reglas oficiales y reglas sociales no escritas. Formaron jerarqu\u00edas: l\u00edderes, grupos populares, mediadores. Desarrollaron una cultura: chistes internos, tradiciones, frases, estilos y recuerdos comunes. Tuvieron rituales: entrega de la chaqueta, ceremonias, despedidas, senior week. Construyeron identidad colectiva: \u201csomos la promoci\u00f3n de los melos\u201d repet\u00edan constantemente. Enfrentaron crisis: ex\u00e1menes, conflictos, cambios, p\u00e9rdidas, presi\u00f3n acad\u00e9mica. Se dividieron en comunidades: grupos por intereses, amistades, deportes, gustos y pasatiempos. Y ahora, se preparan para expandirse, como una civilizaci\u00f3n que migra, cada estudiante sale hacia nuevos territorios.<\/span><\/p>

Like any civilization, this one was made up of distinct groups that gave it character. First, The Senators\u2014those who elevated classroom discussions: <\/span>Juan Felipe Salazar, Laura Uribe, Antonia Orjuela, Sebasti\u00e1n Figueredo, Mart\u00edn Garc\u00eda Sancho. <\/b>Then came The Ambassadors, who represented Colegio Bolivar through leadership and character: <\/span>Santiago Caicedo, Sof\u00eda Ramos, Manuela Valc<\/b>\u0227<\/b>rcel, Luc\u00eda Rodr\u00edguez, and Valeria Soto. <\/b>But every civilization also needs its free-thinkers, The Keepers of Chaos, who made every class interesting and unpredictable: <\/span>Martin El Khoury, Lucas Ram\u00edrez, and Eduardo Bellini.\u00a0<\/b><\/p>

We also had The Victims of Monday Mornings\u2014<\/span>Yael Corkidi, Mariana Cubillos, and Pablo Calero<\/b>\u2014who always seemed surprised that school started so early and they ultimately arrived, it felt like a celebration. Closely related were The Time Travelers, who operated on a unique interpretation of the bell schedule but were always extremely friendly when they made it: <\/span>Juan Mart\u00edn Moreno, Juan Mart\u00edn Estrada, Francisco Coral, and Mart\u00edn Saucedo. <\/b>And of course, The Lords of Procrastination, who turned last-minute submissions into an art form but would always come through in the final countdown: <\/span>Sara Gonz\u00e1lez, Miguel D\u00edaz, Andr\u00e9s Arango, Martina Wartenburg, and Tom\u00e1s Olano.\u00a0<\/b><\/p>

Respecto al lenguaje y a la comunicaci\u00f3n, podemos reconocer a los escribanos: excelentes para registrar informaci\u00f3n, ejemplos de rigurosidad en su quehacer, entre ellos, <\/span>Sof\u00eda Beuth, Valeria G\u00f3mez y Luciana Herrera. <\/b>Los mensajeros y cronistas: encargados de registrar en tribuna y en tribuweb los acontecimientos de la civilizaci\u00f3n, periodistas por tradici\u00f3n y por convicci\u00f3n, <\/span>Joshua Barney, Jer\u00f3nimo Mu\u00f1oz, Gabriella Palau, Federico Garcia y Daniel Cano. <\/b>Mientras que otros, detr\u00e1s de la t\u00fanica de la discreci\u00f3n, fueron maestros en comunicar conocimientos, valores y tradiciones, como <\/span>Gabriela Ru\u00edz y Mart\u00edn Caicedo. <\/b>Y levantando la voz, tenemos a los <\/span>oradores: <\/b>capaces de enfrentar al p\u00fablico para convencer o informar: <\/span>Gabriela Jaramillo y Mar\u00eda Camila Borrero. <\/b>Y esta secci\u00f3n la cierran los narradores: tienen gran imaginaci\u00f3n, son creativos, expertos en el arte de contar mitos, historias y leyendas sobre su tarea: <\/span>Sara Nicole Acosta, Juan Pablo Cabal, Luciana Chavarro, Tom\u00e1s Pardo, Valeria S\u00e1nchez.\u00a0<\/b><\/p>

A civilization also needs creativity. Our <\/span>Artists <\/b>inspired others through music, design, and performance: <\/span>Andrea Rodr\u00edguez, Alejandro Cardona, Samuel Garc\u00eda, Luc\u00eda Escobar, Violeta Rodr\u00edguez, and Martina Ram\u00edrez. <\/b>We also had our <\/span>Philosophers<\/b>, students who asked thoughtful questions long after class ended: <\/span>Mat\u00edas Urrea, Isabella Garay, Daniela Tovar, and Mar\u00eda Jos\u00e9 Cabrera. <\/b>Every civilization has its champions, and ours were the <\/span>Athletes of the Empire<\/b>: <\/span>Manuela Londo\u00f1o, Isabella Pulido, Samuel Parra, Agust\u00edn Garc\u00e9s, and Samuel Castro. <\/b>But what would a civilization be without its good times? Our <\/span>Entertainers <\/b>kept every classroom memorable: <\/span>Jer\u00f3nimo Due\u00f1as, Yoel Kadoch, and Jos\u00e9 Tom\u00e1s Berm\u00fadez.<\/b><\/p>

En esta estructura social es necesario nombrar a los eruditos del reino: como <\/span>Mariana Ortiz, Emilia Losada, Joaqu\u00edn Tom\u00e1s Jaramillo, Daniel Cort\u00e9s y Mariana S\u00e1nchez<\/b>; cercanos a ello est\u00e1n los estrategas y ejecutores: <\/span>Emilio Paparo, Juan Jacobo Cifuentes y Juan David Londo\u00f1o. <\/b>No menos importantes son los consejeros de los gobernantes, observadores, comunicaban ideas, advertencias y estrategias a los l\u00edderes: <\/span>Pablo Juan Karaman, Emilio Lloreda, Felipe Alejandro Vanegas y Juan Diego Sinisterra. <\/b>Y para complementar, est\u00e1n las vers\u00e1tiles: excelentes en todas las tareas que emprenden, sensibles, artistas, humanistas y cient\u00edficas: <\/span>Luciana Correa y Mar\u00eda Escobar.\u00a0<\/b><\/p>

Adem\u00e1s, toda civilizaci\u00f3n necesita sus guardianes, aquellos que velan por el bienestar de todos, por ejemplo, los que alimentan no solo el esp\u00edritu sino tambi\u00e9n el est\u00f3mago, los guardianes de las recetas sagradas, les gusta cocinar y lo hacen bien<\/span>: Alejandra Giraldo, Hanna Jalil y Mat\u00edas Isaksen.\u00a0<\/b><\/p>

Every civilization depends on those who care for others. Our Humanitarians were <\/span>Nicole Arias, Maria Paula Gonz\u00e1lez, and Mariana Yusti <\/b>who showed deep concern for the needs of those around them<\/span>. <\/b>Alongside them were the Bearers of Light, students whose positivity made everyone’s day better: <\/span>Pablo G\u00f3mez, Samuel Barona, Pablo de Angulo, and Alejandro G\u00f3nzalez. <\/b>But we also had The Rebels, those who never felt obligated to follow the crowd: <\/span>Felipe Camacho, Jorge Assis, and Luc\u00eda Duque. <\/b>Then there were The Wanderers, who never allowed classroom walls to limit their adventurous explorations of the school hallways: <\/span>Juli\u00e1n Arellano, Simon Posada, and Juan David Garay. <\/b>Also, we had our Citizens of the Alternate Computer Tabs, who developed lightning-fast reflexes, mastering the art of instantly switching their computer back to the lesson whenever a teacher was near: <\/span>Alejandro Arabia, I\u00f1aki Guti\u00e9rrez, Camilo Cede\u00f1o, and Sebasti\u00e1n Aristiz\u00e1bal. <\/b>And finally, The Guardians of the Laser Pointer\u2014<\/span>Thomas Rebolledo, Jer\u00f3nimo Navia, Joaqu\u00edn Aguirre, and Gonzalo Arenas\u2014 <\/b>whose could always locate and play with my laser pointer no matter where I hid it. We may never know who shined it up into Dr. Wojciech’s second-floor classroom during history class, but I certainly have my suspicions.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

Si la historia nos ense\u00f1a algo, es que las civilizaciones son recordadas menos por sus victorias y monumentos, y m\u00e1s por las ideas, los valores y las personas que dejaron huella en quienes vinieron despu\u00e9s. Y eso tambi\u00e9n es cierto para la promoci\u00f3n 2026.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

You will be remembered less for the tournaments you won or the high grades you achieved, and more for the impact you had on those around you\u2014the conversations, the inside jokes, and the relationships you built along the way. Though each of you played a different role in this civilization, you all helped shape its legacy: one defined by resilience, a little productive chaos, humor, and above all, your kindness and humanity. We congratulate you, Class of 2026, and promise you that the legacy you built here will stay with us for many years to come.<\/span><\/p>
