Alejandro Ortiz and Juan Estaban Martin conducted research on intercropping plants, Arachis pintoi, (Mani forerjero), Zingiber officinale (Ginger) and Curcuma Longa (Tumeric) with bananas rather than the normal method of using bananas as an intercrop with other species:

“How does the intercropping of a mono-crop of banana Musa sp. L benefit the crop: soil quality, available nutrients, and harvest?” https://docs.google.com/document/d/1c8N-WrapuZrhQJR-nMbDfnEv17czHnXmvXngt5bkvhg/edit?usp=sharing
This work was carried out at Alejandro´s parents farm in La Tulia, Valle del Cauca, and was a very solid piece of work that involved planting these species with bananas and seeing the qualitative impact of these on banana development and seeing whether this could be implemented at a larger scale.
