The second High School Sports day competitive coffee collection event occurred this Friday. A huge number of 9^th grade students won the competition by collecting over 6.5kg of coffee.  My two tenth grade students, Mariana Vallejo and Sara Mejia, came second with over 3.5kg, the three 12^th graders came in with 2.5kg and the one sole representative of 11^th grade came in with a very plucky 1.9kg collected.

All in all, it was a great morning of fun, collecting coffee, falling over, pulping the coffee and removing poor quality coffee from the selected coffee. This removes broca affected coffee and helps with the phytosanitary aspect of the garden.

With so much broca and with trees entering their 8-9^th years it is time to do an overdue pruning of the coffee trees.

Recolección competitiva de café n.° 2

El segundo evento de recolección competitiva de café del Día de Deportes de la Preparatoria se llevó a cabo este viernes. Un gran número de estudiantes de noveno grado ganó la competencia al recolectar más de 6.5 kg de café. Mis dos estudiantes de décimo grado, Mariana Vallejo y Sara Mejía, obtuvieron el segundo lugar con más de 3.5 kg; los tres estudiantes de duodécimo grado aportaron 2.5 kg, y el único representante de undécimo grado logró la impresionante cantidad de 1.9 kg.

 

En resumen, fue una mañana muy divertida, recolectando café, tropezando, despulpando y eliminando el café de mala calidad. Esto elimina el café afectado por la broca y contribuye al aspecto fitosanitario del cafeto.

 

Con tanta broca y con los árboles entrando en sus 8-9 años, es hora de realizar una poda necesaria.
