Following the visit to Agrosavia in the previous academic year, and staking out the cacao plot it has been determined that we will have space to plant 64 cacao trees.  The current agricultural plant science students were asked whether they wanted to maximise production of cacao, or maximise quality of production. Discussions were had as to the pros and cons of having one or multiple clonal types. It was decided by students after much discussion to spread the risk for planting cacao by choosing various types of clones and getting advice from experts as to how to which would be the most suitable clonal types for the school.

We turned once again to our friends at Agrosavia and CIRAD for their advice. Dr Olivier Souniga, who has already visited the school twice, guided us to contact the FEDECACAO cacao nursery in Cauca and determine which clones they had on offer. Following this it has been decided that the following clonal types and numbers would be requested.

FEAR 5 (22)

FTA 2 (21)

FSV 41(7)

FEC 2 (7)

ICS (7)

An order for these clones is to be placed and will be paid for by Don Simón Club Funds.
