RETURN OF THE GARDEN! our 6th Year!
It is with the greatest happiness that after a year away, during the Covid-19 pandemic,we are back at school and back with the garden. After a year of leaving the garden fallow, with the minimum amount maintenance by our dedicated gardener Don Hugo Guerrero, we have a lot to do to recuperate our garden.
The first thing is to say that the agricultural elective has a strong body of students, of 18 students from 11th and 12th grade, that will be working in the garden, restoring the coffee and maintaining the plants we have. They will, throughout the year be working on their monograph projects and it will be interesting to see what species they will elect to work on.
Our terrace needs a lot of work to recuperate it. We need to remove the grass, level the terrace and start thinking of new beds to install. The compost pile has decomposed sufficiently so that we can use this organic matter with our coffee plants.
We intend to try and organize a field trip and get guest speakers in to talk to the students on subjects related to agriculture.
Finally, three 10th graders that won the 8th grade Sustainability Shark Tank two years ago have come to me with enthusiasm to see if we can finally realise their dream of a greenhouse at Colegio Bolivar!
It should be an interesting year.
