After the summer recess my new students and I came back to see that the school´s iguanas had had a great feast on our planted pumpkins and that the two terraces that had been developed before the summer had become overgrown with grass.

The first task was to get rid of the grass. This was done by digging up the grass, shaking soil from it, removing stones and demarking beds. Six beds were planned for the first terrace. Each is three meters in length.

This has taken the majority of the students’ time. Additionally, learning from the iguana experience, we erected wooden posts cast in concrete that were not being used in the school. We are reusing these posts in order to erect a wire mesh fence to prevent iguanas and other pests from invading our terrace beds.
The path between the first and second terrace was finished with stones.
As soon as the fencing is up, students will start sowing seeds.
