Snail Mail
For People Who Still Send Mail

Our school address, Calle 5, #122-21, Cali, Valle del Cauca, Colombia should always be used for mail or other items. Outgoing mail may be given to the receptionist, Jackeline Cuero. You may also use any Avianca or any other post office in Colombia for mail service.
School mail goes out each morning and comes in each afternoon at about 2:30. Each teacher has a personal box in his/her respective building for mail as well as for school notices and messages.
All mail coming to or leaving Colombia should be clearly marked “AIR MAIL – CORREO AEREO” in order to assure relatively prompt arrival. Surface mail may take weeks to arrive; airmail takes one to two weeks to be delivered once it is mailed and four days to two weeks for mail sent to you. Sending boxes is unwise, as they may take some time to arrive and might be intercepted by customs. As well, there are certain limitations that one should keep in mind when having boxes shipped down, in terms of size, weight, and declared value in order to avoid having the box go through Customs (where there are HIGH fees for processing). Therefore, you should not anticipate having bulky items sent to you or sending them out. You may consider mailing things “RECOMENDADO” in order to assure their delivery.
In addition Jackeline Cuero will also be able to help you with any Federal Express or other overnight delivery services.
As well, it’s a good idea to bring down some stamps from either Canada or the U.S., in various denominations considering the possibility of increases in the postal rates. (Canadians should bring down BOTH U.S. and Canadian stamps.) You might have a need for these if you want to mail something with someone else traveling to the US or Canada, although, of course, you must use Colombian postage for all mail leaving directly from Colombia. As well, you may wish to check out various online sites which offer stamps (www.stamps.com, for example) if you are in need of such a service. Does anyone still mail letters?
And finally for purchanses made abroad, we recommend you to open a box online on A TIEMPO CARGO WEBSIDE, you will need to provide the delivery address. The rates from Miami to Cali are US$2.5 per pound. If you have 7 pounds it will cost you US$25 flat. Any additional pound after 7 pounds, have a cost of US$3.5 per pound.
