MTSS at Colegio Bolívar is helping strengthen the way we support every student's learning and well-being. Through our partnership with educational consultant Shelley Hawkes, we are enhancing academic, behavioral, social, and emotional support across our school community.
Through this partnership, we aim to enhance academic, behavioral, social, and emotional support. Additionally, we continue to promote an inclusive learning environment where every student has the opportunity to grow and thrive.
What Is MTSS and How Does It Benefit Students?
The Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) is a framework designed to meet students’ different learning and developmental needs.
First, it provides universal support for all students. When additional assistance is needed, more targeted strategies help address individual challenges.
As a result, MTSS allows educators to respond more effectively to students while recognizing their unique strengths and learning differences.
Student Support at Colegio Bolívar: Every Learner Matters
At Colegio Bolívar, we believe that learning goes beyond academic achievement. Therefore, understanding each student’s individual needs is essential to their success.
For example, some students benefit from movement breaks, sensory tools, or fidget objects that help them stay regulated and focused.
These differences reflect the natural diversity of learning. By recognizing them, our teachers can create supportive classrooms where students feel understood and empowered.
Above all, we believe that supporting the whole child is essential to meaningful education.
Professional Development for Inclusive Education
Throughout the school year, Shelley Hawkes will visit Colegio Bolívar’s campus four times. During these visits, she will work closely with teachers and the Student Support Services team.
Professional development sessions will address sensory needs, self-regulation strategies, and the differences between academic accommodations and modifications.
Furthermore, Middle School and High School teachers will explore important aspects of student behavior and school relationships. These conversations will focus on distinguishing everyday conflict, rude behavior, intentionally hurtful actions, and bullying.
Through this training, educators will continue strengthening their ability to respond to students with care, understanding, and effective strategies.
Working Together to Strengthen Student Well-Being
This partnership also includes in-person and virtual meetings with the Student Support Services team.
Together, they review student referral processes, accommodation plans, and modification plans. In addition, they explore how these practices align with the school’s needs and Colombian regulations.
These collaborative opportunities also help identify priorities and plan meaningful professional development for our educators.
Building a Learning Community Where Every Student Can Thrive
Colegio Bolívar is proud of its dedicated educators and the positive practices already taking place across our campus.
This collaboration offers an opportunity to build on those strengths, introduce new perspectives, and continually improve the support we provide.
Because every student is unique, we remain committed to learning, growing, and working together to create an educational experience that celebrates differences, develops strengths, and helps every learner thrive.
