Kitchen Utensils
The school does not provide such items except for a washing machine, but all are available locally, and the quality has improved tremendously in the last several years. Import brands are also readily available, most at slightly higher prices and in less variety than you would find in the States or Canada.
If you have a particularly favorite frying pan or something similar, go ahead and bring it down. Favorite kitchen utensils are also often brought, as well as knives, ovenware, non-stick Teflon pots and pans (these are also becoming widely available here, both import and local brands), Corningware, slow cookers, wok’s, etc.
The new Home Center has just about everything you might want for dishes, cooking and kitchen utensils. For the most part, however, we recommend that you should consider using some of your settling-in allowance ($3,000,000 COP) to purchase these items here. More often than not, they can be sold to other Bolivar teachers when you leave for a reasonable price.
