Sports Equipment
In general, equipment needs for a variety of sports are available here, but often in limited selections and at higher prices than you will find in North America. Equipment for typically North American sports is more difficult to find. Repair services are available (for example, tennis racket stringing) and are of equal quality to that in North America. Most teachers bring down whatever sport or hobby equipment they will need and do not rely on finding it here.
Bicycles can be purchased here; in fact, Colombia is world famous for its bicyclists. Many of those found here, consequently, are of excellent quality and are of the racing (narrow gauge, 10+ speed) variety. Prices range from US$200.00 and up. Mountain bikes are also easy to find in a variety of brands, styles, and prices. Support and service are also readily available. As well, there are good trails and riding groups available if you are interested in mountain biking.
Finally, if you plan on doing any backpacking or camping, you should consider bringing in your own equipment. Although these items can be found here, they are, again, expensive and there’s very little selection.
